Chicago — December 18, 2000 — Electronic Records/Signatures and Embedded Software

Chicago-based, privately held Arbour Group L.L.C. has expanded its resources to meet a growing demand for specialized testing and validation services, particularly in the areas of electronic records and signatures and embedded software. While these disciplines are not new to the firm's core business services, ever-changing regulatory requirements and emerging industry trends have placed an increased emphasis on the role of testing as it impacts archival documentation, product quality, market acceptance and bottom-line profitability. Alexander Patterson, president and CEO, observed that, "As a leader specializing in providing testing, deployment and validation products and services for over fifty pharmaceutical, biotechnology and device companies worldwide, Arbour Group knows that testing is the single most important element in evaluating a pharmaceutical client's use and documentation of electronic records and electronic signatures and is an integral part of ensuring the quality and reliability of medical devices and equipment. Our organization has the flexibility to adapt to developing market trends and respond to client needs with seasoned resources and a highly professional staff of experts."

Christopher McNally, executive vice president of business development, explained that, "Arbour Group is well-credentialed to identify and respond to emerging regulatory requirements as they impact manufacturing, research and development, and clinical elements of clients' computer operations. One such area that commands immediate attention is the assessment of compliance with the Electronic Records and Signatures regulation (21 CFR Part 11). Our assessment services are designed to help clients ensure that electronic records and electronic signatures are trustworthy, reliable and generally equivalent substitutes for paper records and traditional handwritten signatures and that the computer systems are in conformance with the requirements of 21 CFR Part 11." He added that the result of an assessment project is a measurement of compliance with the regulation and forms the basis to assemble an action plan and timetable for remediation. McNally noted, "It is the plan that is looked for in the regulatory enforcement policy and in a recent warning letter."

Referring to the other growing business segment, Patterson remarked, "In need of the most advanced testing capabilities available, successful medical device and equipment manufacturers are looking beyond their internal resources for the leading edge in testing support. They recognize that product quality and reliability are, ultimately, what differentiate competitors in today's marketplace. To that end, we at Arbour Group know that testing is the single most important element in the product design and development process and is an integral part of reducing product time-to-market." He explained that the embedded software testing professionals at Arbour Group have the technical expertise, the management foresight and the international component to address the critical details of the compliance requirements as they impact embedded software used in the medical product. They focus not only on industry and regulatory requirements, but on user functionality and behavioral considerations as well. He added that the increased demand for Arbour Group's results-oriented embedded software testing services is a reflection of the industry's recognition that this highly specialized support will not only expedite the delivery of product to market, but also will promote market acceptance and enhance and sustain profitability.

Chicago — March 27, 2000 — Chargeback and Rebate Software

Chicago-based, privately-held Arbour Group L.L.C. has introduced a Chargeback and Rebate Software application designed for manufacturers, distributors and wholesalers in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries. This innovative software product responds to the need for a simplified, accurate and fully compliant chargeback and rebate program as a time-saving and cost-effective alternative to manual entries, legacy systems and expensive in-house software customization. It efficiently manages the flow of business between the buyer, manufacturer, distributor and wholesaler or Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) and optimizes the core business practices of those interrelated functions. It is the key to capturing the profit potential that might otherwise disappear through invalid chargeback and rebate claims in an intricate and crowded purchasing environment.

The Chargeback and Rebate Software program is a recent addition to the ArbouRx family of proprietary software applications developed specifically for the health care industry by Arbour Group. Christopher McNally, executive vice president of marketing and sales, described the ArbouRx Chargeback and Rebate Software as providing integrated and automated reconciliation functions for chargeback and rebate transactions for a variety of leading enterprise resource planning (ERP) products. McNally observed, "the purchasing environment in today's health care industry is a complex world of dynamic alliances and involved pricing mechanisms. The Chargeback and Rebate Software application was designed to help manufacturers, distributors and wholesalers manage a high volume of complicated pricing transactions, maintain the integrity of contractual agreements and take full advantage of purchasing and sales incentives while reducing the level of effort and expense associated with those detailed accounting processes."

McNally commented that this electronic, business-to-business software program is compatible with standard EDI formats and is easily linked into most ERP and financial systems, adding that its components include:

  • Chargeback Module — manages the process of reimbursing the wholesaler or GPO for the difference between the sales price and the list price.
  • Rebate Module — manages the process of crediting or paying a wholesaler or GPO account based on meeting or exceeding contractual purchase volume commitments.

As software specialists to the pharmaceutical and medical device industries worldwide, Arbour Group understands the dynamics of the purchasing environment in today's health care industry. Complex alliances and involved pricing mechanisms challenge buyers, sellers and producers to employ sophisticated information technology systems that promote best practices in effective supply chain management. McNally stated that the Chargeback and Rebate Software program responds to that challenge with specific product features that enable manufacturers, distributors and wholesalers to:

  • negotiate and manage complex pricing and sales relationships
  • adhere to the terms and conditions of contractual agreements
  • take full advantage of purchasing and sales incentives
  • avoid duplicate payments
  • reduce the level of manual effort and expense associated with a high volume of detailed accounting transactions
  • develop in-depth profit analyses and sales performance reports
